JH Excavating Inc

The enhanced productivity of our equipment enables us to compete on large projects. Some examples include:

-The B & P Railroad bridge job in Chicora required us to move a large amount of fill to replace a wooden bridge that was 70’ high and 700’ long that had been destroyed by fire. Since it served three large industrial sites, the chemicals and supplies that were usually delivered to these facilities by rail had to be shipped in tank trucks. This crippled the productivity of the plants and put trucks hauling dangerous chemicals into local traffic. Rebuilding the bridge would have taken years, so we were given the job of filling the valley with rock to carry the railroad. We moved 160,000 cubic yards of earth and rock after placing a 6’ concrete culvert under our fill area. We worked around the clock for a week with a crew of over 30 operators. This put the plants back into full operation 2 weeks after the fire.

-Seton Hill College used us to build two large parking lots (two separate large site projects), adding around 450 total parking spaces. We were responsible for the site package on both projects including the new storm sewer, storm detention systems, and relocation of existing sanitary sewers.

-Baker Hughes contracted us for two large commercial sites, the first of which was approximately 24 acres. We were responsible for the E & S, bulk earth moving and grading, footers, and storm sewer. After the project started, we were awarded all the trenching for the other utilities. The second project was 38 acres, on which we were responsible for the entire site work package including all the utilities and footers. This site required close coordination with the general contractor to provide all seven building pads quickly enough to meet the project schedule in very difficult winter conditions.

-Lock Haven University Housing was a very large dormitory project on which we moved an extra 30,000 cubic yards of unacceptable fill off site. The soils report missed the poor quality soil, and the schedule didn’t allow for it. We were able to complete our contract work and the additional soil remediation in the originally allotted time frame.

-More recently we completed a large Army Reserve project in Uniontown for the Corps of Engineers. We were responsible for all the site utilities as well as the earth moving, fine grading, and erosion controls. We finished the job on schedule and in budget.

-We’re currently working on a large project in Clarion, PA at Clarion University for 2 large dorm buildings with a very tight schedule and are so far on schedule even though we’ve had a very difficult run of weather.

-We’re also working with a developer from Michigan that has 14 time sensitive commercial projects in our area and so far we’ve been awarded all 3 of the projects under way at this time.

Most of our work is larger commercial site development, but we are committed to staying flexible enough to handle whatever our customers need.
